Title: How did they stay alive?

Direct Quote: It was the end of a long, cold winter, and a family was starving. The hunting had not been eaten. There were no grocery stores then. As the family looked out at the lake near their camp they noticed that the ice was changing color, from white to black. This meant that the ice was thin and would break apart in a few weeks. Spring was coming. They would find food then, if only they could stay alive that long.

Paraphrase: There were no grocery stores back then so if they didnt have any food they just didnt eat.

My Ideas: My ideas about this that back then was bad because you would starve, because their was no grocery stores so if you run out of food there would be no more food.

Direct Quote: There were not many domesticated animals in North America before Europeans arrived-- only turkeys, ducks, and dogs, and most tribes did not eat dog meat (although some did.) In South America, llamas and guinea pigs were also raised by some tribes for their meat.

Paraphrase: They needed to kill some animals just so they can eat. They eat ducks, turkey's,and sometimes dogs

My Ideas: my ideas about this is that i guess that it was a good idea because if they didnt kill the animals they wouldnt have any food.

Direct Quote: The Tlingit and Salish are two examples of Northwest Indian tribes who got most of their meat through fishing. Native hunting and fishing weapons varied from tribe to tribe but the most common ones were bows and arrows, spears, harpoons, fish-hooks, and blowguns.

Direct Quote: Farming was another very important source of American Indian food materials. Native agriculture was most advanced in what is now the southern United States, Mexico, and the Andean region of South America.

Paraphrase: There is a another and very important source for indian food and that is FARMING.

My Ideas: Well my ideas about this is that you will find some farming almost everytime in times back and it was important for people to do farming to get their food so that they can get their meal.

Direct Quote: There were four basic ways for people in ancient societies to find food: hunting and fishing, gathering, farming, and raising domesticated animals. Native Americans did all these things, but the first three were much more common.

Paraphrase: "There are four way that the native americans got there and dose are hunting and fishing, gather, farming, and raising domesticated animals."

My Ideas: My ideas about this is that it is impotant for the native american in the ancient times because they needed food to stay alive.

Direct Quote: In the ojubway language of the Anishinabe people, the story is told of Ininatig,"the man tree." As a reminder of the importance of lifesaving food in th eharsh winters of the northern woods, the Anishinabe, whose name means "the original people," tell the story of maple sugar.

Paraphrase: the reminder of saving food,in the harsh winters.

My Ideas: my ideas is that during the winter you have to save some food so it can last you through out the winter.

Direct Quote: When Europeans first began to arrive in North America in about 1500, Native Americans in the Southeast were acquiring most of their food through agriculture, supplemented by hunting and gathering wild foods.

Paraphrase: Native americans were reasonably about their healthy before the euroeans invasions, they lived on the land and some areas.

My Ideas: My ideas about this topic is that we all need to be reasonably about our health to stay strong.
